Kensington Nursery School, a co-op preschool with community roots going back to 1939 (wow!), was in need of a new website. The quality of the school and its staff were not being represented by their old site, and we approached the school's board with the idea of updating their online presence. We also took the opportunity to tackle a logo redesign.
The new site consists of a front-facing portion, used for promoting the school and general information, and a separate "members" section, where parents of enrolled children can check things like co-op schedules, phone numbers for other parents, show and tell schedules, and other members-only information.
Parents can currently pay monthly class tuition through the site, and anyone can make a donation. In the future, they also plan on having an online store, where anyone can purchase KNS merchandise. All transactions are handled and processed by the site itself.
We also produced some slideshow videos, created from the photos the school supplied us with. We used them as autoplaying video headers (viewable on desktop computers, not mobile devices) to liven up the site, and to make a more creative way to show off some beautiful pictures.
For the logo, we wanted to play on the idea of the school being a cooperative model, where each family shares in the business operation of the school, by helping teachers in the classroom, or serving as members on the school board, or helping organize special events. The true cooperative nature of the school is the secret of its success and longevity. We riffed on the existing tree graphic they had, and rendered a new tree that represents that cooperative spirit.
